Alanya is the warmest city in Turkey

Updated: Jan 8

Information from official sources, relevant at the end of 2019 about Alanya (Turkey) and its environs.

Alanya is located on the Mediterranean coast between the Taurus Mountains in the north and the Mediterranean Sea in the south. The city is divided into western and eastern parts by a rocky peninsula, which is its distinguishing feature.

The climate of Alanya is typical Mediterranean, but thanks to the warm Mediterranean Sea, as well as the Taurus Mountains protecting from the northern cold winds, Alanya is the warmest major city in Turkey.

Alanya is the warmest city in Turkey. The warmest month in Alanya is August, the coldest month is January. The average annual water temperature in the sea is +21.4 °С, in August +30 °С.

Winters are rainy and summers are very hot and long. No wonder they say about Alanya "300 sunny days a year", it's really true.

Due to the very warm climate in Alanya, it is possible to cultivate plants that grow wild in subequatorial and even equatorial climates.

The year of the beginning of the development of the tourism industry in Alanya is 1958. Then the first modern motel was built in the city. A large number of tourists, especially Scandinavians, Germans, Russians and Dutch, regularly spend their holidays in Alanya during the warm season. Tourists are attracted by real estate prices, warm weather, sandy beaches, proximity to the historical sites of Antalya province, as well as exquisite Turkish cuisine. Active and extreme recreational activities include windsurfing, parasailing, paragliding, water parks and sea rides.

Gazipasa-Alanya Airport is located 30 kilometers away, opened for domestic flights in July 2010 and for international flights in 2011. Antalya Airport is located 123 kilometers away. The bus service is well developed, there are no trams and metro. No cash payment accepted, fares can be paid with a Kentkart transport card or contactless. Buses usually run only on main roads.

The harbor includes berths for cruise ships, as well as seasonal ferries and hydrofoils. To the west of the city is the marina.

As practice shows, many of those who want to come here, and even of those who have arrived, do not have this information. So I think it's important to know about it.
