residence permit. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1-20

I collected this collection of questions and answers from official sources in Turkish. Perhaps somewhere you will notice incomprehensible turns of speech, I would be grateful if you point them out in the comments. And yes, please note one point, all answers are valid at the time of publication. In Turkey, legislation changes very often, so all my recommendations will either still work or may be changed. As a rule, the order changes, not the rules themselves.

  1. How can I find the addresses and phone numbers of the immigration offices?

The addresses and phone numbers of the 81 provinces can be found on the official website of the Directorate General of the Migration Service (www.goc.gov.tr) in the contacts section under the heading “provincial organizations”.

  2. Do foreigners married to a Turkish citizen have the right to apply for a residence permit in case of violations?

A foreign person who is married to a citizen of Turkey, in the event of the expiration of the visa-free regime for up to 90 days and / or the delay in the residence permit for an indefinite period, if possible, must make an exit-entry if if this is not possible, you should contact the migration service.

  3. I studied at university X for two years. Then I transferred to another university Y. What should I do in my situation?

The existing residence permit remains valid if the faculty and department change, but the region / province does not change. In this case, the foreign person is obliged to notify the Migration Service within 20 working days of the change of university/faculty/department.

If the residence permit period is shorter than the duration of study, then the residence permit will be extended until the end of the study period.

In the case of continuing education in another region / province, the current residence permit will be canceled by the provincial government and a new one will be issued for the required period of study.

  4. Is it possible to travel abroad during the 90-day application period?

Foreigners receiving a primary residence permit are issued a certificate of application by the migration service on the day of the rendezvous.

In the case of an extension of the residence permit, this certificate is generated automatically and issued by the system on the official website of the migration service.

The document must be signed and stamped by the relevant authorities. The certificate of application along with sample receipts for payment of the state fee entitles a foreigner to travel abroad multiple times and stay outside Turkey for a maximum of 15 days.

  5. I want to apply for a family residence permit. Do I need to provide police clearance certificates for all family members?
