  • About stones. What types of natural stone are there?
There are various types of natural stone used in construction (cladding) and as decoration. The most famous and commonly used ones are marble, granite, travertine, white stone and slate.
  • Where does natural stone come from?
The main source of natural stone is mountains. However, this source can be river beds and seas. One of the famous marbles extracted from sea sources is "MARMARA" marble, which is distinguished by its pattern in the form of a sandy seabed.
  • Veins and/or sparkles are visible inside natural stones - what is this?
Each type of natural stone contains minerals characteristic of the specific area in which these stones are mined. In this regard, they have a different structure and pattern from others.
  • Is one type of natural stone better than another? What is the best natural stone?
Each of the natural stones has specific properties that give it its characteristic great hardness, softness or shine. Depending on the application, some types of natural stones are preferred over other types. For example, white stone (limestone) floor tiles are not suitable for areas with heavy foot traffic, as it will wear out quickly. At the same time, it is an excellent choice for use when lining walls. Therefore, when choosing a natural stone, it is necessary to focus on the scope of its application. Let's just say that in each case it is necessary to make an individual decision about which stone will be better. As a rule, a specialist will help you make a choice. In the photo in order: travertine, marble, granite.
  • Could it be that natural stones from one country are better than natural stones from another country?
There is a popular belief that some countries produce natural stone better than other countries. This is fundamentally wrong. Natural stones are generated by nature itself, and even in one quarry the stone can and will differ, since it is not a homogeneous mass. Even when sawn into a block, only a high-class specialist can see what it will be like. The beauty of natural stone is revealed through the production process. Only marble industry manufacturers with modern production facilities and specialists process and produce high-quality natural stone. The video below shows marble from different deposits, sawn into slabs at one enterprise. Visually, it differs only in color and pattern. For specific applications, it is necessary to consult a specialist.
  • What do different types of surfaces mean? What difference is there between them?
After cutting the blocks into slabs, the working surface of the natural stone is processed. The main processing takes place using sandblasting equipment. The size of the sand grains and/or longer periods of sandblasting give the stone a shiny and polished appearance. Less painstaking use of sandblasting equipment will provide the stone with a more natural appearance. The degree of surface treatment is the designer’s choice or a client’s order. Recently, it has become fashionable to use well-polished surfaces. This treatment, compared to treatment giving a natural look, is considered “conditionally better” since over time it allows for better preservation of the surface from wear and aging. In some stones, such as travertine, natural pores (holes) form as minerals settle. These voids and holes are left without fillers in order to create a more natural appearance on the cladding. At the client's request, voids can be filled by the manufacturer or filled by builders directly during grouting. The following are the most common types of edges: from coarse to fine in increasing form natural cracks with broken edges sidewalk type aging beveled coned bevel polished The masters will explain it to you in more detail directly at the stone.
  • What advantage does natural stone have over artificial stone?
Have you ever seen a plastic surface that looked great after a few years of use? The same is true with artificial stone. After some time, under one influence or another, it loses its qualities and cannot be returned to its previous form. Natural stone is natural, as practice shows, it does not lose its beauty even after a thousand years. In addition, if for some reason it begins to age, then a polishing specialist can bring it back to life, which cannot be done with artificial stone (this applies to granite and marble). Man-made stones constantly repeat themselves (produced on a conveyor belt), that is, they do not have originality and their own design, unlike natural stone. Natural stones are environmentally friendly, unlike artificial stones created using chemistry. The harm and benefits of using this kind of chemistry have yet to be studied by humanity. I believe that at this stage of time it is not worth believing the statements of “scientists” speaking for advertising purposes. In addition to all of the above, natural stones in some cases do not require constant maintenance. An example of natural stone is the Lincoln Monument and/or the Egyptian pyramids, which still look great after all these years. After time, natural stone can be processed and it will be as good as new. The floor in the photo is more than 10 years old before and after treatment. I don't think it's possible to treat artificial stone either.
  • What are the standard sizes of tiles for cladding and what is their thickness?
Basically, tiles are made in sizes from 10x10 cm to 60x60 cm. But in fact, the dimensions of natural stone are made to order by the client of any size and thickness depending on the scope of application. Only our specialist will help you with this issue during the ordering process. The video shows the process of cutting a block of marble into slabs. This is probably the most powerful cutting machine I have ever seen.
  • What stones are decorative? For what purposes is such a stone used?
Decorative stone is used to cover any surface with natural stone. To make an edge for a clock on the wall, you can use a platband. In order to separate the living room from the kitchen, you can use edging. Together with mosaics, platbands and edging (borders), the possibilities of decoration increase.
  • What makes a stone "exotic"?
Exotic stones are mined and brought from various parts of the world, usually remote. Such stones require special attention and care when processing. Due to weather conditions, seasonal restrictions, and transport restrictions, such stones are found in small (limited) quantities in the world, which is why they are called exotic.
  • What is the temperature of the stone? What options are there for heating under stones?
Basically, natural stones insulate both heat and cold. For example, at room temperature they have a lower temperature. If heating is installed under the floor, problems with heat transfer may arise, so in such cases of using natural stone, it is necessary to consult a specialist.
  • What determines the price of natural stone; the simpler the stone, the cheaper?
This is not entirely true. As a rule, the price of natural stone depends on the capacity of the stone quarry in which it is mined, the volume of production and processing. According to the laws of the market, along with an increase in production volume, the price also decreases. For example, some of the best stones in the world, such as travertine, are cheaper due to the presence of large reserves in the world.
  • What tones of natural stone to use, dark or light, is there a significant difference?
It's a matter of taste. Basically, light colors are used in places where there will be less natural light. Dark colors are used in well-lit rooms. But in fact, this is a question purely for your designer. The first video shows granite in slabs and its colors. The second video shows mosaic tiles made of natural marble. In Turkey they are produced in a small number of enterprises. For some reason they are now in demand in the USA. It shows how different colors of marble can play in combinations.
